MILOVAY’s New EP, MILO, Brings R&B and Afro Together For The After Party and Everything Before It

MILOVAY, known for his freestyles in his songs, keeps only what he has actually lived, a habit built over fifteen years of making music and two years of building this name. His new EP “MILO” has been out a little over a week, four tracks and ten and a half minutes of R&B with an Afro pulse under it. We talked to him about the record, the work behind it, and the last EP of this run. If you are a musician, this one is definitely a must. Music Authentic: Welcome to Music Authentic! “MILO” has been out in the world for a little over a week now, and the first days after a release tend to be a strange cocktail of relief and restlessness. Which one is winning right now?

MILOVAY: Thank you for having me today. Starting off I would say is more of both. I am kinda on this journey of introduction for the brand “Milovay” itself all while pushing it out as myself. You know, when I dropped “MILOVAY”, my first thought of process was to show people what I could do and who I am…like a first impression. Now that we are past that era, I wanted to now show the people that I’m just as chaotic as I can be lovey dovey or lost in love…This is like I’m lost in lust and ironically, the collective Luvluss falls right under those circumstances. So yea, it’s both.

Music Authentic: Before Milovay there was Peregrine, there was Punani Papi, there’s TheS14r your dreamers know from your channels, and underneath all of it a man named Brandon. Looking back at that whole cast now, is one of them the truest fit, or did they all pour into this one, and Milovay is simply the place where they finally agree?

MILOVAY: I think so, I think with all the years I’ve put into this passion that I’ve grown so connected to… There’s always room for improvement. I also hold nothing back. If I screw up… I’m man enough to admit I was wrong. Vice versa as well. With Peregrine, I learned not all publicity is good publicity. With Punani Papi I learned doing too much of everything isn’t what will pop you off as an upcoming artist in today’s day. All of that comes to Milovay where now I’m learning how to create a legacy… promoting the right songs, knowing how many songs goes into a project in order to keep a listener in tack, or even as simple as posting content as a social media influencer but staying grounded to the title of musician. So yea, I mean it’s my past… no one else’s… so I don’t worry about judgment or nothing like that cause the things I learn are stuff that either you get by word of mouth or you’ll be in the game for X amount of years and what you’re learning essentially becomes useless.

Music Authentic: Listening to “MILO”, what strikes us first is how vivid and alive it sounds, warmer and more life-affirming than this world seems willing to let anyone feel these days. Is that a quiet rebellion against the doom and gloom, or is it simply what pours out of a man who refuses to lie in a song?

MILOVAY: That’s what I was shooting for…to feel alive and “in the moment”. At this point we all know I’m a concept artist at heart…its severely easy for me to talk about a moment in time…but it’s also easy for me to hold myself in the now of today. I mean, I started off in this passion as a rapper, haha. Peregrine was the rapper. Like I said, I wanted to show these emotions and let people know that yea, I can do this type thing too AND I can make it sound good AND it’s not all over the place. It’s still R&B and there’re still afro components. You could say I refuse to lie in my music but even so…it’s more than just that.

Music Authentic: “MILO” tells its story in four tracks and ten and a half minutes, “BOOMSTICK” through “Like Drums, Hear The DaDaDa”. The winter EP was built as a confession, track by track, and you’ve never been shy about putting your life on the record. So what changed in the storytelling this time, in the depth, in how much of yourself you let through, in the people you pulled into the room with you? What can this EP say that “MILOVAY” couldn’t?

MILOVAY: Well, “MILO” was built in the way where each song described the timeline of a casual regular night out to the club with your people. “BOOMSTICK” being super bold but movey type…like pre-game, then it goes to “Does She Know?” where not only am I speaking about the amount of awe this girl is making me do but also its like you just pulled up to the club and you’re in the line tryna get the bouncer to let you in and you get to talking to the other people in the line to kill time. Then we hit “MyT.U.R.N.” which is huge on the vibe and energy because that’s exactly just it…That’s around the point in time where we got in the club and now…ITS UP! And then we reach “Like Drums, Hear the DaDaDa”. where we are at the point of the after party where you found someone you took a liking too as they did with you and now you guys are all on your own at whoever’s crib…you cook for them…or get straight to business you know. Now “MILOVAY” was for introduction standards. So the same requirements don’t match off rip. With the winter project, I was hell bent on debuting Milovay… a brand that I have been working on for already a full year at this point…Now its been 2 but I spent all of 2025 understanding how I wanted Milovay to sound in a world where R&B is like… somewhat still popping in their own lane and somewhat not… ”MILO” touches on the chaos energy of me, and “MILOVAY” was simple just a prelude to the debut your now witnessing.

Music Authentic: From the outside, three EPs in eight months looks like a sprint, yet compared to the pace you once kept, it reads like a man who finally learned to breathe between takes. So tell us honestly: has the artistic cramp ever hit you, that quiet anxiety of giving everything and still waiting for the world to notice?

MILOVAY: Eeeeehhhhh, sometimes. I do have moments where I get super upset because I’m as big as I am and I know I can be bigger but patience is super key. I recently turned 28 and I’ve been chipping at this long term dream for at least 15 years now. It’s funny too because you said three EPs and that got me scratching my head cause I forget about the project I dropped last December… BUT you’re not wrong either because yes, I am working on the final EP project in order to finish this debut journey. It will be titled “VAY” and it will probably be the most exposed pieces of art that I’ve ever made public. It 100% will touch on the after party of the after part0y, haha. The emotions one experiences once all the men and the girls leave and you’re left with your own thoughts. Y’all will see how deep it can get and I’m not afraid of showing that amount of vulnerability. Its things like that where most of the time I not even pressed on public opinion… I’m more pressed on the delivery of everything so it connects to a stranger that doesn’t know who Milovay is and they want to be fan while I’m past all the debuting.

Music Authentic: Of all the directions you could have taken after years of refusing every box, you chose R&B carried on the West African pulse. You’ve called R&B the epicenter of all music and Afro the sound made to move people, but between those two answers there’s usually a more personal one hiding. What does this pairing let you say that no other sound could?

MILOVAY: Honestly, brand ability. Back in 2025, we were trying to figure out what genre was easiest to push out without losing one self. At this point I’m doing everything from country to rap to R&B to dembow…I’m talking MELTING POT!. My homie, Vinothekidd, thought about it and said “let’s make R&B your golden genre…the genre we can always lean on when hell breaks loose. Also to make a sound that’s recognizable.” I added afro because I simply can’t be just one genre or I will go insane. Dude, I record at least 500 songs year and I’m spit balling right now…I know for sure a good range is like 10-15 songs a month. Afro is one of those genres where it’s a release of pure energy whether it be love or lust. And to make matters even better, the current state of R&B is very experimental. A lot of artists are combining components of other genres into R&B. So that’s where we get the fusion of the two.

Music Authentic: The industry runs like a content machine now, feed the algorithm daily or disappear, and it grinds artists, art, and audiences down at the same time. You show up weekly for MILOVAY MONDAYS, you freestyle only what you’ve lived, and you refuse to lie in a song. How do you keep the machine fed without letting it eat the very honesty your music stands on?

MILOVAY: Milovay Mondays are special because they only come rare. I remix other people’s songs or leak snippets of my own music. I’m rare about them only because I understand work overload and to be honest, if I’m heavy on releasing music all 2026 then that’s where my focus has to lie. So for example, all of 2025, while I was fighting to get that Milovay sound….I was also making short form content to get a starting on beefing my social media presence. And it is not as difficult as you would think…because I’m not focused on releasing music. I just want to make specific videos where they are quick to understanding and even with this new one I’m trying out “CookingW/Milo” where I make food based on the energy the song of choice gives me. This is all to help beef up content in 2027 because after 2026….im not stopping haha…dawg after this year, I gotta shoot for viral energy…ill just say…remember the alter ego “Milo” ‘cause this ep was just the debut of that alter ego… Next year gone get active.

Music Authentic: Between the work, the audio engineering classes, the videos, the weekly drops, and a house you refurnished with your own hands, where does Brandon go to chill and recharge when Milovay clocks out?

MILOVAY: With people. If you’re talking like overall once all these talents or professions if you will go silent for the night? Yea…with people. And I’m talking family, friends, AND strangers. I have a huge issue with my work ethic being above the stars dawg. Real talk I forget about the outside world too often and that’s because I’m constantly working and trying to improve whatever project or task I’m on for the day…So a good way for Brandon to chill would be networking but not in a way of promotion…but living in the moment with whoever is with me or near me.

Music Authentic: When was the last time you did something and caught yourself thinking, I never imagined one day I would do this? Music counts, but so does everything else.

MILOVAY: See I don’t really know. I have this mentality of “nothing is impossible” and that kinda eliminates the surprise factor to whatever I’m doing. I believe that I can do anything so it doesn’t register as something where I think to myself “wow look at this”. I guess if I had to answer tho, it would be as simple as being with someone and me looking in the mirror and telling myself “what do they see in me?” Playing a little bit into my self-esteem world haha. But that as far as I think I can go with that, haha.

Music Authentic: The classic question, with a twist, since you freestyle everything: what truly comes first for you, the beat, the melody in your head, or a feeling that has been waiting for the right instrumental to open the door?

MILOVAY: The beat comes first, overall. Usually, when I’m recording I record one take full of mumbling… just trying to find the right melody that works. Once I find it then I become a punch in artists. Where bar by bar I drop my lines. Rinse and repeat that method a handful of times and come song 10-15, I’ll then mix everything. Once I have a skeleton of the beat and my main vocals, I then go into mixing/mastering mode. This gets done with every song at least 1-2 days in… then everything gets mastered either the same day and the next day and now I have a solid 10-15 songs that I really take a liking to.

Music Authentic: If you could sit down with the 14-year-old speed-rapping along to “Worldwide Choppers”, what would you tell him? And knowing yourself as well as you do: would he have listened to a single word of it?

MILOVAY: HAHAHA yah I would listen because it’s me. Now, if it was ANYONE ELSE, then yea good luck with that… but because it’s me speaking and I trust myself with my own decisions, I would 100% listen. See because overall at the end of the day both of us are shooting for the same thing and we both understand how difficult this industry can get whether that be on a competitive level or anything else in this industry for that matter. I also think there would be some room for remorse but I think I would come to my senses pretty quickly. At the end of the day, you know, I still idolized Tech N9ne, so as the co-founder of Strange Music, he doesn’t move like a normal musician, and that would be another form of push that would push my younger self to listen to the ‘me’ now even more.

Music Authentic: And before we let you go: will these new songs get a stage anytime soon, or should listeners settle in with your YouTube for now, where the Shorts carry the usual fun and pun until the lights go up somewhere?

MILOVAY: Um, that’s a good question, I haven’t put extreme thought into that factor but now it’s getting my thinking about it. Maybe come 2027 when all this debuting is over and I start becoming a “in the now” type of artist, I think I might really hone in that. I mean, I’ve been so focused on all this Milovay stuff that I think shows are still kinda out of my reach as of current. Like I said, I think next year I’ll have A LOT more room to breathe and think about the advancement of the brand and I think it will come to that. Being viral also means being part of the community and that’s something I actually wanna strive for. So yea, expect that next year for sure, haha. Thank you for having me today.
